There's A Whole Big World Out There, Jeffrey

So I'm not on the net too much. It turns out there's a great wide wonderful galaxy full of semi-pro Jedi stunt warrior dudes on YouTube, and a lot of them are producing remarkably good sequences like this one. We've also found some really, really bad ones with awful sound quality, clumsy sabers, terrible choreography, and ridiculous effects... I guess those are the amateur and fanfic equivalents who will only get better with time.

In the meanwhile, get a load of this crazy action!!! It's even got character and plot arcs, albeit small arcs that are subservient to the duel (and rightfully so).

Recommended Reading: Blasphemy

For anyone (like me!) who hasn't read Douglas Preston yet, jeez, people, get out there and get into his stuff.

I picked up a copy of Blasphemy at the behest of an online friend. Naturally it sat in my to-read stack for months. You all know how much leisure reading I'm doing these days... nearly zilch... but I had the chance to bring a book with me on a short vacation last week.

Whammo! Talk about your high-octane big idea tech thriller! He's got God. He's got science. Romance. Politics. Explosions. Dark caves and burning deserts. Just as important, he's got readability. The eye moves easily through every page & there's no surprise why this guy's on the top of the NYT bestseller lists.

I guess I'm done gushing now. But I'm going out to read more asap.

Catching Up Again

Today we have a shotgun blast of small good bits of news!

First, my short story “Long Eyes” is a part of Pyr Books’ prestigious new Fast Forward 2 anthology, which hits stores this week. A far-future space adventure, “Long Eyes” may be the most “sci fi” story I’ll ever write, and it’s only one part of an impressive collection of fourteen mind-bending tales by many of the hottest names in the genre today. Wow!

FF2 is also available online, of course, for example on Amazon.

On the novels front, Plague Year is finally available as an ebook in all three major digital formats.

Kindle.

Mobi.

and Sony eBooks.

Also, just for fun, this week I learned belatedly that my short story “Exit” appeared in Greek, in July, in Issue #404 of Ennea, a weekly, full-color sci fi and comics supplement of the major newspaper in that country. Their main page and the current cover of Ennea can be seen here.

Take a peek!
