Topnotch podcast of "Long Eyes"

The mind-crogglingly awesome crew over at Starship Sofa has just released another story of mine as a free podcast. The smooth-voiced Amy H. Sturgis, who was in perfect pitch last summer for “The Frozen Sky,” returns as the narrator of “Long Eyes.” For me, listening to it is an odd experience. This sounds like a story I’ve never heard before. Her delivery is rich and calm and evocative.

The story starts at about the 30 minute mark into their podcast. Highly recommended.

Podcast of "Snack Food"

My short story “Snack Food,” a sly little tomato surprise originally published in Tales of the Unanticipated #24, has just been released as a podcast by the crew at Clone Pod.

This is one of those rare stories for which I can pinpoint exactly where I came up with the idea — in the SuperCuts in the Madonna Plaza in San Luis Obispo on the central California coast. Don’t you hate making small talk with somebody who’s got their hands in your hair? (Unless it's your lover, I mean.) It’s even worse when someone has their fingers in your mouth or your eyeballs, but chatting with a barber about inane things is not my favorite chore. Instead, I think weird thoughts!

Bruce McDonald does a nice job narrating the piece, and I encourage everyone to go give “Snack Food” a listen. It’s fun, it’s free, and, yes, it’s freaky. ;)

Their web site is right here.

The Frozen Sky

More good news from afar. My novelette “The Frozen Sky” remains my favorite of all my short fiction (it's dark and freaky!) and it’s well on its way to becoming my most successful, too. This week “Sky” was bought by the Czech sf/f magazine Pevnost, where it will run in their October issue. This is an award-winning publication, full-color, glossy cover. Sweet. Give ‘em a peek at http://www.pevnost.cz/ I have little idea what any of that says, but it’s an awesome-looking site. Excitement!

Also this week, the good folks at the U.K.-based-but-world-spanning podcasters of Starship Sofa have released “The Frozen Sky” as an audio file read by Amy H. Sturgis in her cool, poised, and totally hot British accent, which is perfect for the main character, who is also European. Check it out at http://www.starshipsofa.com

Amy’s delivery is hands-down superior, and they paired me with a Spider Robinson story, which is just gravy on the ice cream! ;)
